Appearance of the Vector of Japanese Encephalitis, Culex Tritaeniorhynchus, in Seoul

Abstract
It has been widely known that Culex tritaeniorhynchus is the main vector of Japanese encephalitis in Korea but little study was done on the time of early appearance of C. tritaeniorhynchus in Seoul which locate in northern part of South Korea.
The investigator collected and studied time of early appearance of C. tritaeniorhynchus in suburban areas of Seoul City from 1965 for 11 years.
1. C. tritaeniorhynchus does not appear before June 15 and earliest time of appearance was June 16 in 1966 and 1967. The vector of disease appeared on mid-June in 1965 and 1970.
2. The population of vector mosquitoe of Japanese encephalitis decreased tremendously after 1970 in Seoul area.
3. Number of hospitalized Japanese encephalitis patient was over 1,000 before 1968 but thereafter number of the patients were decreased rapidly and there were only less than 100 patients in recent years.
